How Expensive Will Your AC Repair Be?

We know this can be a very stressful topic. We’d like to start off by telling our readers and customers a very valuable tip: take a deep breath and pause for a moment. Most decisions made in haste and anxiety end up being not as well thought out as the choices we make when we’ve logically thought them through. And we’re here to help inform customers to make the best decision for the long run.

When encountering a broken down air conditioner, or an AC with issues, it can be easy to spiral out of control. Especially if you had your system maintained earlier this year, or you just had it repaired last year, this can seem like a huge slap in the face.

But don’t worry, these things happen. And our team has payment plans in place and out-of-the-box solutions for systems that require special AC repair in Lebanon.

So relax, put on your thinking cap, and let’s get to work. We’ll figure this whole ordeal out together!

Small Repairs Are Usually Worth It

If a repair costs about $50 to have a few tiny components replaced, then that’s usually worth it. Keep in mind that even an air conditioner that’s 10 years old will still be worth thousands of dollars, so a small repair is never really a bad option.

But that’s the thing about small repairs: they can range anywhere from a few bucks to upwards of $300. We urge our customers to consider their air conditioner’s lifespan and the realistic budget of replacing the system. If you absolutely cannot afford to replace this system in the near future, then we’d suggest investing in a small repair (even if it’s a couple hundred dollars) so you can be better prepared for replacement in the future by saving some money.

Medium Repairs Require Some Calculation

A medium repair can be anywhere from a few hundred bucks to half the cost of your air conditioner (which can be a few thousand dollars). This is a tricky decision to make, and it requires more calculation than a small repair. Here are two tips:

  • Multiply the age of your system by the estimated repair cost. If the number is more than $5,000, then the repair is not worth it. Otherwise, move onto the next step.
  • If your repair cost is worth half or more of the cost of a new AC replacement, then the repair is likely not worth it.

By following these rules, it’s easier to know whether you should pay for a repair or not. If it doesn’t meet these requirements for a replacement, then a repair is probably worth the investment.

Large Repairs

If your air conditioner has a catastrophic failure, like a compressor failure, then you’re in an even trickier position. Large repairs are the most expensive, and they’re likely almost the cost of a new AC replacement. The one thing that we can tell you in this situation that might make a difference is to pay attention to how old your system is.

If your system is only a couple years old (or relatively new), then the repairs are probably worth it, since the rest of the unit will likely last a long time. Otherwise, a total replacement is almost always better.
